Oh sweet sorrow
My heart longs for you
For your sting is harsh but your burdens are few
You’ve warned my soul
Time and time again
I don’t know why I let you go then
I caught a glimpse
And I stumbled in its wake
Closing my eyes to consequence and change
Hope for all time
It’s always the same
We all know the trouble still remains
I am but a bird on a string
Arms out stretched as the walls cave in
So take these thoughts I’d rather not mourn
And I will fly away off into the dawn
Where are my words?
Where are my words?
I’ve left them on the lips of angels high and heard
So that they might whisper
Something sweet to God
That he might have mercy
On me and my heart
I am but a bird on a string
Delivering a song to the one without wings
So take these thoughts I’d rather not mourn
And I will fly away off into the dawn
I will surrender
Old love like new
Daylight brings slumber
It never brought me you
My heart now sleeps
You’ve opened up my eyes
I’ll remember you for the rest of my life
I’ll remember you for the rest of my life

This is the first album I found that really spoke to me as a young fem.
From the simplicity, the bass drum, specifically in landfill is so steady and soothing. I love landfill because it perfectly portrays trauma bonds, sexual or romantic relationships rooted in power imbalance. Being led on, unrequited love, constantly being clueless if someone is a real friend, or a lover. Are they yours or are they ruthlessly rogue. Untameable. Love and hate are such similar feelings, and they often mingle. clementinehatepageichangedmymind

It may not be a full-fledged LP, but All Delighted People is probably my favourite of Sufjan's works. Without an overaching album theme to tie the songs together, it felt like Sufjan was free to experiment on each track and give them their own unique sound. And because of that (and Sufjan's talent), every track on there is a standout track. Angkasawan
